Good reading braids the two together: the traditional meaning gives structure, intuition gives the reading to this person, this moment.

You don't have to choose between memorized meanings and gut feeling. Learn the meanings so you have a vocabulary, then trust what the images actually raise in you — the card that unsettles you most usually has the most to say.
