Numerology is the symbolic reading of numbers, and in tarot a card's number is a fast clue to its stage. Aces are pure beginnings; Twos are pairing and choice; Threes, first growth; on through the Nines' near-completion and the Tens' full arrival and end of a cycle.

The same numbers echo across the four suits, so a spread with several of one number is worth noticing — a run of Fives, for instance, points to conflict or loss whatever the suit. The Major Arcana carry numbers too, from The Fool's 0 to The World's 21.
