The Court Cards

The sixteen court cards trip up most beginners. Here's a simple way to read Pages, Knights, Queens, and Kings.

Each suit ends with four court cards — Page, Knight, Queen, and King — and they're where new readers most often get stuck, because a court card can mean a person, or a part of you, or an energy to step into.

A simple frame: the rank is the how, the suit is the what. Pages are beginnings and messages — curious, learning, a little green. Knights are action and pursuit — they charge after the suit's goal, sometimes too hard. Queens hold the suit's power inwardly, with mastery and care. Kings hold it outwardly, with authority and command.

When a court card appears, ask first: is this someone in my life, or a way of being the cards are asking of me? Both readings are valid — let the surrounding cards and your own gut decide which fits.
