The Fool's Journey

Read the 22 Major Arcana in order and they become a single story — the path from innocence to wholeness.

The Major Arcana aren't 22 unrelated cards. Read in number order they tell one story, often called the Fool's Journey: the path of a whole life, or any real chapter of one. Learn it as a story and the individual cards stop being a list to memorize and become stages you recognize.

The Fool (0) sets out with everything ahead of him and nothing to lose. Early on he meets his own powers and teachers — the Magician's skill, the High Priestess's intuition, the Empress and Emperor, the Hierophant's tradition. Then come the choices and forces that test him: the Lovers, the Chariot, Strength, the Hermit's retreat, the turning Wheel.

The final stretch is the hard, transformative one — Death's endings, the Tower's collapse, the long night of the Moon — before the light returns with the Star, the Sun, Judgement's reckoning, and at last the World, whole and complete. When several Majors land in a spread, ask where in this arc you're standing; it's often the fastest way to read them.
